The seven photos as the seven days of creation

1: Light: Max faces the father; the first things he says are (a) he saw that it was good, and (b) something about light.

2: Sea/Sky: Max moves a fluid that causes part of the chaos to be separated from the rest.

3: Land/Plants: Jefferson is busy planting the seeds of everyone's destruction. This is a bit contrived, admittedly.

4: Sun/Moon/Stars: By the time Max is done, she's on an airplane. The image that is made dominant is of lights set to watch over Max's world.

5: Sea animals: In the deep chaos of the Dark Room, the people in it are turned into animals. Jefferson destroys Max's journal and art, and sets out to kill her like a dog. Jefferson himself is utterly beyond all humane concerns, despite his remaining intellect, and can only be manipulated in bad faith. Madsen is the opposite, and more animal-like: he has normal decent sentiments, but lacks the full capacity to be reasoned with as an equal, and besides a few simple commands can only be aided in his activities or nudged towards something better.

Once she's out, Max discovers that numerous whales have been sent flying through the air.

6: Man: This is the only image that has a man and a woman in it. This does fall apart trying to shoehorn in Max and Chloe as an Adam/Eve pair, notwithstanding they are alone together in a wild-looking garden tasked with somehow dealing with a world on the brink of primordial chaos: there is no option available that is both subduing and having dominion over any other, merely a singular moment of power to allow or prevent their collective destruction; they are by no means "male and female" (unless you subscribe to the egg-Max theory). The green herbs and trees are all looking awfully intact throughout the storm though.

7: Rest: Both choices result in a deliberate, positive decision to engage in inaction. (See also Max's prior instruction to Chloe that lets them get to this point in the first place.)
