In that Last Temptation article Fr. Stephen has this ingenious inversion of the accept/refuse ticket imagery, the ticket being to embracing the power fantasy of needing to save everyone.

This, of course, resolves the initially contradictory image of the butterfly photo physically resembling a ticket to going somewhere else...


[2021-03-05: See the addition about water, blood and spirit and how it applies or fails to apply to each of the two bathroom scenes. The Bay Ending is very, very much a refusal of the ticket, in the Karamazovian image.]
