i never really thought about periods in fiction writing tbh. i feel like, unless its really relevant to the plot or the character, it doesn't really matter to write it in tbh. like if it's what the fic is about (a sickfic or something idk) then yeah, or if it's inherent to the character, like the character having really bad period cramps every month, it's fine to just leave it out lol. for something like a longfic where characters do a bunch of stuff over a couple months, periods can just be an offscreen thing that doesn't really need to be mentioned, since it's just a body thing for people with vaginas.

though since it's normal for the character, it might be something they bring up casually, like when talking about other things they're used to or talking to a doctor or something. it's probably hard to make it sound natural especially if you don't get periods but really it's just a bodily function so like you said, it's not the end of the world if you don't include it lol. definitely interesting to think about it in relation to writing though, i've never considered it and rarely do i see it brought up in fanfic
