It occurs to me that we've just passed the 5-year mark for when we moved to Burnaby and my parents finally ceased living under the same roof.

Also, I really should get that notary they used (now retired IIRC) a big gift basket or something out of both thanks and apology for us having subjected her to a back-to-back purchase/sale at the end of April. I would never, ever have agreed to such a thing myself now.

Why April specifically?

I tend to stereotype April as a busy month, though things actually really reliably pick up in the summer while April is actually quite variable.

However, April tends to be busy for other reasons too and tends to be a time of change for everyone... while we're still trying to get used to the busy season.

Meanwhile, for some reason everyone wants to close their real estate deals at the end of the month. I never understood why.

Which makes the end of April, if not especially busy, then especially painful when it is busy.

This April 30, we had over twice as many files closing that day as we had in '14, and 3 times that of '13. I remember '12 being very busy, but given I was still learning the ropes I can't quite trust my judgment in retrospect. (Also our calendar archives don't go back that far)

I expected the answer to be tax season related! Income tax deadline was yesterday here and other places, and Japan for one end their fiscal year on the first of May. (Or is it April? Actually looking it up it's April)

Possibly! (though today has been noticeably more stressful than yesterday, if only because it's all the shit that could not be dealt with cleanly yesterday...)

Yeah, I was also wondering if Canada shared our tax year...as apparently do Brazil and Japan.
