So 10-odd umpteen years later I finally do the thing I made an animated gif to avoid: actually do the pixel lettering for "our religion prevents the interruption of suffering" - and also omit the "we'd kill you" context.

I'll leave the full line in the description so it doesn't stay misread as "our religion is good because it prevents the interruption of suffering".

And now with the sun also redone, I might just permanently start using Chloe/Frank as my default :V icon.

After reading about the "you're fucked" oneliner from Duke Nukem Forever, I deleted the Rigelatin icon. I'll keep the original on my hard drive for now, but otherwise I want nothing further to do with that irretrievably degenerated franchise.

Now that I've lost both the eugenics monkey and the douche nukem villain I no longer have a userpic that really fits Bad Politics Discourse.

I suppose between David looking through Mark Jefferson's computer and Chloe looking through garbage I've got all the bases covered already, but it seems so weird to use them for original fiction unrelated to this game.

As embarrassing as it is to write “What does Duke Nukem mean in 2021?” it is a pertinent question, mainly because he’s such a clear, distilled example of a still-pervasive trend: bad-faith satire as cover for enjoying toxic masculinity. While Duke’s failure as satire and/or parody isn’t exactly news—some journalists were clear-eyed enough about this when his last game, Duke Nukem Forever, was released in 2011—his status as a forerunner to more subtle forms of masking toxicity with humor is worth unpacking. Gaming culture still does what Duke Nukem did. It’s just gotten better at hiding it.
